2008 Food Allergy Walk Committee Minutes

ATTENDEES: Sally Hoss, Kim Syslo, Linda Salzman

Kim:

• forwarded ConAgra Food’s wellness route map for the walk location. Kim will forward in color/email format.
• Does the $250 landing charge provide parking? If extra, how much?
• Question: What is our mileage goal? Go around route once, same start/end point, route allows for activities at various points.
• Question: Is landing available? (scheduling) Can we get a sponsor?
• Question: Where are the restrooms? Will we need port-a-potties?
• Dey is willing to sponsor: Booth, event water, give-aways

Linda:

• Talked with ConAgra. They are interested in supporting activity, but need direction as to the specifics of activity/donation.
• Midwest Allergy and Asthma also stated they would be interested in participating, and will also need direction as to the specific donation.
• Question: What is our position on donations? (FAAN vs. Local)
• Question: Can corporations/businesses take a tax deduction without a local tax ID? (are donations in-kind tax deductible)
• Question: How do we want to manage t-shirts? (every kid who signs up through FAAN gets a t-shirt for free)
• Question: Can we find a way to get shirts in advance so they are available/able to be wore walk-day? (Could this be a sponsorship opportunity)

Sally:

• www.foodallergywalk.org is up
• Posters are available for printing. Sally will email this poster link. Posters can be printed in color. Poster will need sign-up instructions and will be put under the Omaha Support Group website. (i.e sponsor names)
• Omaha Food Allergy Support Group received a grant for making copies to support the walk and an update meeting. Food allergy videos will go to Visiting Nurse Associations and the OPS will get videos from FAAN.
• FAAN Trace Adkins poster for free.
• FAAN supports golf events. (down the road for Omaha.....)
• Chalco Hills is doing an asthma walk.
• Hit the community bulletins closer to walk date.

ACTION ITEMS

• Sally - contact FARRP
• Big Picture - Determine our direction for the 2008 Omaha walk
• Next meeting (Walk Group) - try to do something end of April/Early May (4-10)
• Omaha Food Allergy Support Group - Dr. Kettlehut is speaking during Food Allergy Awareness (location TBD)
